March 9, 20253 minute read

Magic Earth, the best alternative to Google Maps and Apple Maps for Android and iOS, allows you to transform your smartphone or tablet into an AI DashCam. Additionally, if your car lacks a built-in Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), its Driver Assistance feature provides similar capabilities to help you avoid collisions and accidents by alerting you to potential problems and lane changes.

Magic Earth for Android and iOS

Magic Earth is a free turn-by-turn navigation solution for Android and iOS that features OpenStreetMap, crowd-sourced traffic data, 3D maps, satellite maps, offline maps, and transit information. It supports Android Auto and its safety feature for drivers, known as AI DashCam, adds to its versatility.

The AI DashCam feature in Magic Earth allows you to utilize your mobile device’s rear camera to record the road ahead. This effectively transforms your phone or tablet into a dashcam, providing recorded evidence in the event of an accident or altercation. Magic Earth includes several Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) features, such as Headway Warning, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Pedestrian Collision Warning, and Stop & Go Assist.

How to Add AI DasCam and ADAS Features to Your Car Using Magic Earth

1. To install Magic Earth, download it from the Play Store for your Android device or from the App Store for your iPhone.

2. Once installed, launch Magic Earth, tap the menu button, and select AI DashCam.

3. Next, enable the DashCam feature by turning on Recording. You can also specify the maximum length and size of the video, and there is an option to record audio as well.

4. To activate the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) features, switch on Driver Assistance.

5. In the Driver Assistance settings, you can adjust parameters such as vehicle width, camera height, camera lateral displacement, and other ADAS feature settings.

Feature of Driver Assistance in Magic Earth

Headway Warning: It tracks the distance between your vehicle and the one in front, alerting you with visual and sound warnings if you get too close. It uses your smartphone’s rear camera and motion sensors to measure time and distance, and it can detect cars, buses, vans, and trucks when you’re driving over 30 km per hour.

Forward Collision Warning: It helps prevent rear-end collisions by giving visual and sound alerts when a crash is likely. It detects sudden stops of vehicles in front of you using your smartphone’s rear camera and motion sensors, scanning for cars, buses, vans, and trucks.

Lane Departure Warning: It uses your smartphone’s rear camera and motion sensors to monitor lane markings when you’re driving over 60 km per hour. It can detect road curves and track various types of lane markings, including white, yellow, blue, continuous, dashed, boxed, botts’ dots, and curbs.

Pedestrian Collision Warning: It detects both moving and stationary pedestrians up to 50 meters ahead using the smartphone’s rear camera and motion sensors, particularly when the vehicle is traveling below 60 km/h, to help prevent collisions.

Stop & Go Assist: It provides audible warnings when traveling under 30 km/h and the distance to the vehicle ahead is less than 2.5 meters, alerting you with “Watch out for vehicle!” It also notifies you when traffic resumes from a stop, such as at a red light or in a traffic jam, with the message “Moving traffic!” when the vehicle in front begins to move.
